World Bank to loan Nigeria $2.2 billion for six key projects in 2025.

By Stella

The federal government is set to secure $2.2 billion in new loans from the World Bank in 2025, spread across six key projects. The lender plans to approve $500 million for the “Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus Programme” by March 17, while $552 million will go toward “HOPE for Quality Basic Education for All” and $800 million for “Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria 2.0” by March 31.

Additionally, $300 million each will fund the “Solutions for the Internally Displaced and Host Communities Project” on July 15 and the “Health Security Program” on August 19. Another $500 million will support the “Building Resilient Digital Infrastructure for Growth (BRIDGE)” initiative by September 15.

World Bank noted that the BRIDGE and Health Security Program are still in the concept review stage, while the nutrition and education projects have advanced to negotiations. In 2024, Nigeria received $1.5 billion for development initiatives, bringing its total exposure under the International Development Association (IDA) to $17.1 billion as of September 30, 2024, according to TheCable.

By December 31, 2024, this dropped slightly to $16.8 billion, though Nigeria remains the third-largest borrower from the IDA. “Nigeria continues to prioritize investments in resilience, education, health, and digital infrastructure,” a World Bank spokesperson said.
